April 18, 2019

Sometimes there are no adequate words to post an update that authentically sums up Will’s journey.  There is just churning emotion ranging from panic to hope to fear to gratitude.  Tonight that is certainly the case.... I’m with my son, we are quietly spending time in...

No medal for his mettle

No medal for his mettle

Courage doesn't always roar.  Sometimes courage is that little voice at the end of the day that says, I'll try again tomorrow..... Stuva said it best the other day...."Will is the bravest person I've met, even in ALL the stories I've ever read" and I tend to agree....

When we rest, He works

When we rest, He works

Cancer creates a path of least resistance because it comes from seemingly nowhere, knocks us down and then bets we won't get up.  The getting up is hard, it might take a few tries but we rise, albeit on unsteady feet, and we turn to face our adversary.  The problem is...

All the Love

All the Love

Thank you all for sending us so much love these past days, weeks and months and I wish I could respond to all the positivity we've received in kind but, sadly, I can not.  I will keep this update brief.  The results of Will's biopsy were not what we had hoped; while...

Monday Wishes

I am cocooned at Children's with my boy on this rainy evening - we are enjoying the more mellow pace of a Sunday night here and soaking up the moments of calm before tomorrow arrives.  We look to Monday with both excitement and a little trepidation as Will has his...

Luck of the Irish

Luck of the Irish

I bet you all didn't know that Will has a little Irish in him - and I think today was the perfect day to cash in on that luck and we most certainly did! Will was eager to bust out of PICU but got derailed yesterday evening and spent an extra night there due to another...

Another “Three”

Another “Three”

Trips to the PICU are earned pretty easily by kids being treated for cancer but until tonight Will had avoided any dramatic changes of scenery and stayed put on the 7th Floor.  These past few days, however, have been challenging for Mr. Will - he's been dealing with...

Third Time’s a Charm:)

Third Time’s a Charm:)

It's darkest before the dawn and I've always believed this to be true.  Historically my dark and my dawn have been of relative non-emergent qualities but I've adopted this mantra most recently to calm me and carry me, renewed, into the next phase of our new normal. On...

A Simple Thank You:)

A Simple Thank You:)

On December 18th Will and I took our first drive to Children's Hospital, directed to do so by his pediatrician after getting results from blood work ordered the day prior.  I had to map it; really didn't even know where is was aside from a vague recollection of...

Back in the Saddle

Back in the Saddle

Last journal entry had us waiting for an increase in Will's counts to allow a short return home before starting round two of chemotherapy.  Will was feeling pretty well; increasing his physical activity and enjoying a hearty appetite. We were filling our days with...

Full disclosure

Full disclosure

Many have commented on how positive my journal posts have been and I am so very glad to hear the note I am striking is one of hope, strength and positivity because it is what is needed and, at least most of the time, it's what I feel.  I realize, however, the desire...

The Blind Side

The Blind Side

Whether you're into football or maybe you're just a fan of cinema and you've seen the movie by the same name - you likely know something about the concept of the "blind side".  Using the football analogy, the quarterback is pretty much running the show but has a blind...

Roller Coaster

Roller Coaster

I used to love roller coaster rides when I was younger but as I get older I find they are too much - I'm happy to be the "stuff" holder who sits out a turn while everyone else runs back into line.  Now, despite my best efforts to avoid roller coaster rides, here we...

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas

MERRY CHRISTMAS!  And it WAS Merry...our new normal doesn't always let us recognize the  abundance of our blessings because we, perhaps, only feel what we are missing....waking up together in our home, Stuva and I drinking coffee and enjoying the quiet because the...

‘Twas the Day Before Christmas

‘Twas the Day Before Christmas

Will had a great day yesterday - he was able to get up, shower all by himself and even take a few strolls down to visit the nurse station.  He was taken off oxygen (a big win) and overall just felt a little better and more positive. His brother, Jack, bought him a...

Shop with purpose and help us help others!
